From the Sea to the Real Mesa Peak – BYOB

[New Day] Many hiking groups promise to take you to Mesa Peak but they never do. That’s because they have confused their peaks and take you to the wrong one. So come along with us to the real Mesa Peak!

There it is: the real Mesa Peak

Our hike will begin at the beach in Corral Canyon, the last undeveloped coastal canyon in Los Angeles County that flows freely to the ocean. We will then leave Corral Canyon for my “secret trail” through pristine wilderness to the Puerco Canyon watershed divide that provides spectacular ocean and mountain views.

Will there be water in the creek by then? If not you can use this picture and your imaginations.

Here we are along the ridge between Corral and Puerco Canyons on one of my “secret” trails (which is not so secret any longer). I am expecting it to be greener this time!

The 1,844 ft summit presents broad views of the ocean and Santa Monica Mountains. A small building sits on the summit along with a solar panel providing a perfect place for our snack break

Hike is a loopy 7.5 miles with over 1800 ft elevation gain in the first 4 miles.

Post hike lunch will be at Malibu Seafood – right at the trailhead.

They allow you to bring your own beverage, alcohol included. Keep it cold in your car until we get back
